北朝鮮危機の意味：Implications of North Korea Crisis

本日米国の二大新聞がたまたまそろって、北朝鮮問題を超えた潜在的な核クラブメンバーの問題についての記事をトップに載せている（下のリンクを参照）。
ニューヨーク・タイムズの記事によれば、核爆弾を製造できる技術か資源を持っている国が世界中で40ヶ国もあるこという。またロサンゼルス・タイムズの記事では、核拡散防止条約に基づいた現在の体制が、核兵器を持ちたがっている国々の台頭によって崩壊しつつあり、やがて「新しい核のグローバル体制」が生まれる可能性が強調されている。
いずれにしても、潜在的な核クラブメンバーが、核実験を行なった北朝鮮の国際社会による扱われ方を注意深く見ていることは確かであろう。したがって、現在の北朝鮮危機はグローバルな規模の重要な意味を持っているといえる。

Today it happens that two of the leading U.S. newspapers put up their top articles on potential nuclear club members beyond North Korea (see the above links).
According to the NY Times article, there are as many as 40 more countries that possess the require skill and/or material to build a nuclear bomb. The LA Times article emphasizes the fact that the current system based on the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty "is eroding as countries seek atomic weapons," possibly leading to "A New Global Nuclear Order."
It may be true that those potential nuclear club members are carefully watching how North Korea will be treated by the international community in the aftermath of its nuclear test. In this sense, the current North Korea crisis has critically important implications on the global scale.
