新著「格差社会」：New Book on "Social Disparity"

橘木俊詔「格差社会」：Prof. Tachibanaki's Latest Book

橘木教授（京都大学）はこの最新の著書の中で、日本の経済格差はこのところずっと上昇し続けており、所得格差の度合はいまや西欧諸国よりも高く、主要国の間では米英に次いで不平等な社会になったと主張する。
データに基づく格差の事実に関する分析は実に包括的で、極めて説得的である。特に、日本の経済格差の拡大傾向は高齢化の現象の反映で単なる見かけ上に過ぎず、実際にはそれほど進んでいないというよく聞かれる議論に対して明確に反論している。
その一方で、「小さな政府のアメリカ型社会」に批判的な橘木教授の結論は、彼個人の価値判断に基づくもので、誰でも反論可能であろう。しかしいずれにしても、これは一読に値する本であることは間違いない。

Toshiaki Tachibanaki "Social Disparity" (2006, Iwanami)
Prof. Tachibanaki (Kyoto University) maintains that in Japan economic disparity has gradually been widening for the last several years and the degree of income inequality is now higher than most of the Western countries and only next to the U.S. and Britain among major countries.
His data and factual analysis on widening disparity seem very comprehensive and quite convincing. In particular, he clearly refutes the often-heard argument that Japan's economic disparity might be only in appearance, due to the aging phenomenon, and not in substance.
On the other hand, his conclusions, especially critical of "American-style society with small government," are based on his own value judgment and can be disputed by anyone. At any rate, this book is highly recommendable, along with his recent publication in English (see below).
