資金援助だけでは不十分：Writing a Check Is Not Enough

金融サミットでの日本提案：Japan's Proposal at Financial Summit

下にリンクされている「Asahi.com」の記事によると、麻生首相はワシントンのG20による金融サミットで、現下の国際的な危機のもとで新興国経済を支援するために、IMFに対する融資として1千億ドル（約10兆円）を拠出するという。
これは危機対策として日本がとれる良い政策ではあるが、今日の世界秩序を修正したり更新したりするリーダーシップをとろうと米国とEUとが競争していることに鑑みれば、単に拠出金を増やすだけでは、国際金融体制を改革するイニシアティブをとるのには不十分であろう。

It is reported in the Asahi.com article linked above that Prime Minister Aso will offer $100 billion (10 trillion yen) to lend to the IMF for the sake of assistance for emerging economies in the current global crisis situation, when he joins the leaders of G20 at the financial summit meeting in Washington.
Although this may be a good step that Japan can take to deal with the crisis, more than writing a check would be needed to take initiative in reforming the international financial system, where the US and EU nations seem competing over the leadership role to play in modifying or even renewing today's world order.
