移民による社会活性化：Revitalization by Immigrants

このところ私の趣味のブログ（下記にリンク）で外国から来て米ジャズ界を活性化させている若いミュージシャンを何人か取り上げている。しかしそれはジャズに限らず米国社会のあらゆる分野（大学などの学問分野、スポーツ分野、その他の専門分野など）についていえる。
例えば、南カリフォルニア地域では日系人、フィリピン系移民などが多くの老人ホームを運営して安価でよいサービスを提供している。高齢化が急速に進む日本でもそのようなサービスがぜひ必要であるが、日本ではそのための移民の導入についてまったく展望が開けていない。

On the blog linked above, I have recently featured young Jazz musicians who came from abroad to revitalize the U.S. Jazz scene. This phenomenon is not restricted to Jazz, but widely seen elsewhere in the U.S. society -- academics, sports, professional services, etc.
For example, in Southern California there are a large number of nursing homes for elderly people run by foreign immigrants such as Japanese Americans, Philippino Americans, etc. In view of its aging population Japan needs such services urgently, but no breakthrough seems in sight regarding introduction of foreigners in any meaningful way.
