本日付のDaily Yomiuriの記事（下のリンク参照）によれば、昨日の東北地方の地震はその大きさの割りに被害は少なかったようである。
その理由としては、この地方が6月に大地震に襲われ被害も大きかったために、次の地震に対する備えがあったこと。さらに、今回の地震は周期の短い揺れだったために住宅やビルへの打撃が小さかったことも理由の一つであったという。

It is reported in today's Daily Yomiuri that yesterday's earthquake in the Tohoku region did not cause as big damages as it could have.
This is partly due to the well-preparedness of the people who were hit by the more damaging quake in June.
In addition, this time the earthquake generated high-frequency seismic waves that are generally less damaging to houses and buildings.
