脱デフレ宣言先送りか：Not Yet to Declare End of Deflation

栄誉は次の首相に（？）：Handing Over Prize to Next PM (?)

今朝の新聞（読売および産経）は、「脱デフレ宣言先送り」という見出しで、内閣府が来週末に発表する「月例経済報告」でのデフレ脱却宣言は見送られるであろうと報道している。その理由は、去る8月26日に発表された7月の消費者物価指数が石油価格高騰の割には予想外に落ち着いていたためであり、また米国経済の減速の悪影響を懸念しているためであると思われる。
おそらく小泉首相は「デフレ脱却」の栄誉を次の首相に譲りたいのではないか。なぜなら自民党のリーダーとして栄誉が必要なのは、もう小泉氏ではなく、次の総裁だからである。

Today's newspapers (Yomiuri and Sankei) are reporting that the Cabinet Office now seems unlikely to make a declaration of the end of deflation in the coming Monthly Economic Report for September. This may be due to the fact that the Consumer Price Index for July turned out to be unexpectedly stable despite oil price increases and also due to some concern about the negative effects of the slowdown of the U.S. economy.
Mr. Koizumi would probably like to hand over the opportunity to end Japan's long-lasting deflation to the next prime minister, because he doesn't need any more prize as the leader of his party, whereas the new prime minister does.
