結局は教育が鍵を握る：The Key is Education After All
本日木下俊彦早大教授とランチを共にして、大変興味深い話しをお聞きした。話題は幅広く、西洋と東洋の出会いから始まり、日本のアジア政策にまで及んだ。
最終的に、日本の若者に「アジア市民」や「世界市民」という意識を持たせるような教育が鍵であるというのが木下教授の結論で、そのために日本の教育システムを国際化することはそれほど難しいことではなく、インターネットを使ったり、国際的な活動に対する若者のモティベーションを高めるように工夫すればよいというのが、それをすでに早大で実践している木下教授の主張であった。
この点、私もまったく同感である。
Today I had a wonderful lunch with Waseda University Professor Kinoshita, who talked about a variety of things from historical contacts between Europe and Asia to Japan-Asia economic relations.
In the end, he concluded that the key would be education for Japanese young people to help them to be "Asian Citizens" or "World Citizens." Actually it is not too difficult to globalize the education system by making use of the Internet and also by motivating students for international activities, as Prof. Kinoshita himself has been trying at Waseda University.
I fully agree with him on this point.
