トヨタ世界販売台数は2位：Toyota Still No.2 in Global Car Sales

1位になりたくないか？：Would Not Like To Be No. 1?

本日付の「Mainichi Daily」によると、トヨタは昨年の世界販売台数でGMを追い抜くことができず、2位にとどまったとのこと。
ある意味でトヨタはこの事実を知ってホッとしているであろう。なぜならあまりGMを刺激したくないし、また世界で1位になって社員がいい気になることも望まないからである。
もし自己批判がなくなれば、トヨタはトヨタでなくなるといえよう。

It is reported in today's Mainichi Daily (see the link above) that Toyota was still No. 2, following GM, in car sales worldwide last year.
Toyota must have been relieved by finding out about this fact, because Toyota would not like to be too offensive to GM, and also would not like to see its employees become too complacent.as No. 1 in the world.
Toyota would no longer be Toyota without self-criticism.
