"Fukuda keeps thaw with China on track"
http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/nn20071231a1.htmlAccording to today's Japan Times article (see the link above), Japanese Prime Minister Fukuda's visit to China has just been concluded and termed "the coming of spring," meaning friendlier relations between Japan and China after Fukuda's meetings first with Prime Minister Wen and then with President Hu Jintao, who both emphasized common interest between the two countries.
Actually, however, there are some serious problems yet to be resolved such as the gas and oil exploration rights in the East China Sea as well as the fundamental stance toward Taiwan, although the Japanese and Chinese leaders have agreed not to make any issue out of those differences at least for the time being.
Thus, whether current trends toward better relations between Japan and China will continue in the long run remains to be seen.
