成田発着枠拡大計画：Plan to Increase Narita's Air Traffic

羽田との競争を意識：Considering Competition with Haneda

本日の「Japan Times」の記事（下のリンク参照）によると、成田空港の国際ハブ空港としての地位を維持するために、発着枠を現在の20万から約30万に増やす計画があるという。
この計画は成田空港の運用会社が提案しているが、それが公式に採用されるためには、成田周辺の9つの自治体の同意を得なければならず、不可能に近い。
そうこうしているうちに、羽田空港は着々と拡大を遂げて、より多くの国内便だけでなく、東京と北京間のチャーター便のような国際便も飛べるようになっている。
このような状況が続けば、成田は今後厳しい競争に勝てなくなるであろう。

According to today's Japan Times article (see the link above) , there is a plan to increase annual air traffic at Narita Airport from the current 200,000 to about 300,000 to maintain its status as an international hub.
This plan is being proposed by the operator of Narita Airport, but for such a plan to be officially adopted, approval must be obtained from nine local governments in and around Narita. That is considered almost impossible.
In the meantime, Haneda Airport is expanding its capacity to accommodate not only more domestic flights but also international chartered flights, including those between Beijing and Tokyo.
Given this situation, Narita might not be able to survive in the long run.
