本日付の「Daily Yomiuri」の記事（以下のリンク参照）によれば、外務省は海外における公式の日本語学校を今後3年間で10校から100校に増やす計画であるという。
これは海外で日本語を学ぶ人の数が増えていることに応える意味があるとともに、近年急速に中国語学校を増やしている中国の動きに対抗するものともいえる。
外務省はまた、中国やその他の国との競争に負けないように、そのような日本語学校を利用して、人気のある日本のアニメやマンガなどのポップカルチャーをより積極的に普及させる計画であると、この記事は報じている。

According to today's Daily Yomiuri (see the link above), Japan's Foreign Ministry is planning to help increase the number of official Japanese language schools overseas from 10 to 100 in three years.
This is partly in response to recent increases in the number of people who are learning Japanese overseas, and partly due to China's move to set up more Chinese language schools all over the world rather rapidly in recent years.
The Foreign Ministry also intends to use those Japanese language schools to spread popular Japanese anime, manga and other pop culture overseas more actively in competition with China and other countries, according to the Daily Yomiuri article.
