米Ｘ世代男性の所得低下：Income Decline for Generation X Men

拡大する世代間所得格差：Widening Generational Income Gap

26日付のロサンゼルス・タイムズの記事（下のリンク参照）は、2004年のデータに基いた最近の研究によれば、米国のＸ世代（30歳代）の男性の所得が、その父親の世代の1974年における所得よりもインフレ調整済みの数字で12％低かったと報じている。他方、1974年当時に30歳代だった男性はその父親の世代の30年前の所得よりも5％高かったとのこと。
このことは、少なくとも30歳代の男性にとっては「アメリカン・ドリーム」はもはや実現不可能のものとなり、世代間の所得格差が拡大していることを意味している。
30歳代の男性の所得が低下している主な理由は、アウトソーシングと働く女性との競争であろうと、この記事は示唆している。日本でも近い将来、これらの要因が男性の賃金を押し下げる主な理由になるかもしれない。

It is reported in today's LA Times (see the link above) that accoring to a recent study based on the 2004 date, men in Generation X (in their 30s) earned 12% less than their fathers in 1974 in real terms, whereas men in their 30s in 1974 had 5% higher income than their older counterparts.
This means that the "American dream" can no longer be realized at least for men in their 30s, and the generational income gap seems to be widening.
It is suggested in this article that outsourcing trends and competition with women may be the main reasons for the income decline for thirtysomeing men in the U.S. The same factors could become dominant in pressuring men's wages downward in Japan in the near future.
