高齢化先進国日本の役割：Japan's Role As Aging Society

国連レポートの意味するもの：Implication of UN Report

本日の読売新聞によると（下のリンク参照）、国連は世界人口予測を発表し、世界の総人口が2006年の67億人から2050年には92億人になるという見通しを示した。さらにそのうち60歳以上の高齢者が20億人（つまり総人口の20％以上）に達するほど「高齢化世界」になるという。
もちろん日本は高齢化という点ではもっとも先進的な国の1つなので、世界にとって望ましい高齢化社会のモデルを提供できるし、またそうすべきであろう。
日本は急速な人口減が進んで消えてしまう前に、そのような努力をしたほうがよいのではないだろうか。

According to Yomiuri Shimbun (see the link above), the United Nations just published a report, predicting that the world's population will likely be around 9.2 billion in 2050, up from 6.7 billion in 2006, and about 2 billion people will be above 60 years old -- a rapidly aging world!
Needless to say, Japan is among the most advanced nations in terms of aging. So Japan can and should provide a desirable model of aging society for the rest of the world.
Japan had better do so as soon as possible, before it is shrinking too much in terms of total population.
