Mr. Keikichi Honda's Talk on Japan's Economy & Technology
本日2月21日に本田敬吉氏（日本NCR特別顧問）が主催する定例会があり、本田氏は日本の経済と技術革新についての意見を述べ、他の参加者はそれぞれ自分に興味のある問題について自由に議論した。
本田氏は、本日行なわれた日銀の金利引き上げに言及し、これは家計部門が銀行預金からの利子所得を増やすことができるので、望ましい動きであると結論づけた。
また日本経済の動向についても楽観的な意見を提示し、技術革新と新興市場の拡大によって日本の景気循環の様々な波が一緒に上向きになっていると主張。技術に詳しい参加者がこれに同意して、特に日本では、一般機械、新素材、素材産業などの分野での技術革新が進んでいる点を指摘した。
しかしその一方で別の参加者からは、今日の世界で進んでいる急速なグローバル化とパワーシフトを意に介せず、日本の政治家や一般市民が国内だけに注目する内向きの姿勢について懸念も表明された。
いずれにしても、この会はいつもながら参加者全員が刺激を受ける議論の場といえる。

Today there was a regular meeting, organized by Mr. Keikichi Honda (Special Advisor, NCR Japan), where he gave a brief talk on Japan's economy and innovation, and other participants freely took up various topics of their interest.
In particular, Mr. Honda discussed the issue of interest rates that were raised by the Bank of Japan earlier today. He said this is a desirable move, mainly because households will benefit from higher interest payments on their bank deposits.
Mr. Honda also presented an optimistic view on the Japanese economy, which may well be positively affected by synchronization of various business cycles in the positive direction, partly due to the age of technological innovation and emerging markets.
Those participants who are familiar with technology echoed Mr. Honda's optimistic view regarding Japan's technological innovation, especially in the fields of general machinery, new materials, and resource industries.
At the same time, however, some concern was expressed about the inward looking attitude of Japanese politicians as well as average citizens without regard for the tendency of rapid globalization and power shift in today's world.
In any case, this is always a stimulating discussion meeting for all the participants.
