金融教育の目的： Purpose of Financial Education

米のバイアスと日本の遅れ：US Bias & Japan's Backwardness

本日（1/28）付『朝日新聞』（下のリンク参照）のコラム「消費者パワー」で、金融教育の 日米比較が取り上げられており、そこで米国の高校では金融機関などがスポンサーになった金融教育のコースが増えていること、そしてその1つの目的は、将来の金融マンの育成であることが説明されている。
しかし、そのような金融教育のあり方に対して批判的な教師も日米両国で多く、経済・金融教育はむしろ一般の生徒が将来の経済社会生活のために役立つ経済的な概念や方法を教えるべきであると主張する。例えば「National Endowment for Financial Education」（下のリンク参照）などの組織がこのような動きを支援している。
いずれにしても、日本では小中高校レベルでもっと経済・金融教育のコースを増やして、生徒に「経済・金融リテラシー」を持つよう訓練することが必要である。そのような努力は日本で始まったばかりで、それを支援する組織としては「経済教育ネットワーク」（下のリンク参照）などがある。

It is reported in today's Asahi Shimbun (p. 5, see the link above) that there is an increasing number of financial education courses at US high schools, mostly sponsored by US financial institutions. One of the purposes of such education is to train human resources for the financial industry in the future.
However, a few teachers in the US as well as in Japan are critical of such kind of financial education, and suggesting that students in general should be taught economic concepts and methods for their own economic and social life in the future. Some organizations such as the National Education for Financial Education (see the link above) are providing support in that respect.
In any case, Japan needs to offer more courses in economic and financial education courses at elmentary/middle/high school levels to help pupils acquire economic and financial literacy. Such efforts have just begun in Japan as seen on the website of the Network for Economic Education (see the link above).
