米のイラク開戦は誤りか：US Invasion on Iraq a Mistake?

防衛相の問題発言：Defense Minister's Problematic Statement

本日の「ジャパン・タイムズ」（下のリンク参照）は、久間防衛相が「米国がイラクの大量破壊兵器開発を理由としてイラク戦争に踏み切ったことは間違っていた」と発言したと報じている。この発言は、日本が米国のイラク戦争を支持するという内閣の決定に反するようにみえる。
そこで、「日経ネット」のニュース（下のリンク参照）によれば、久間氏はその後安倍首相に会って、発言はイラク開戦以前のことを言っているので、内閣不一致ではないと釈明したそうである。
しかし、「読売オンライン」（下のリンク参照）が伝えているように、久間発言はすでに野党のメンバーの批判にされされており、またブッシュ大統領のイラク政策を全面的に支持する安倍首相にとってはメンツをつぶされる可能性もあろう。

It is reported in today's Japan Times (see the link above) that Defense Minister Fumio Kyuma said "the U.S. invasion of Iraq was a mistake based on a faulty assumption." This statement sounded like a disagreement with the Cabinet decision by the Abe administarion that Japan should support the US on the Iraq war.
So, according to a report in Nikkei Net (see the link above), Mr.Kyuma met Prime Minister Abe and explained to him that he expressed his view "before the Iraq war broke out" and, therefore, there should be no disagreement among the Cabinet members.
But the Kyuma statement is already being criticized by opposition party members, as reported in Yomiuri Online (see the link above), and could be a political embarassment to Prime Minister Abe, who is committed to fully support US President Bush on Iraq.
