政党は何のためにあるのか：What Are Political Parties For?

お笑い芸人の「そのまんま東」が宮崎県知事選で勝利したことは、日本の政界に大きな衝撃を与えている。それはお笑い芸人が知事になったということよりも、むしろ住民が政党に興味を示さず離れていってしまったからである。
確かに「Daily Yomiuri」（下のリンク参照）にあるように、談合などのスキャンダルにまみれている地方政治に対する不信感が政党離れを起したのかもしれない。
しかしむしろ最近の安倍政権の人気低落が地方選挙にも影響したともいえるのではないだろうか。
いずれにしても小泉後の政界は何が起ろうと不思議はない。これは安倍首相と政権政党にとってはあまりよいニュースでないことは確かである。

The result that comedian "Sonomanma Higashi" won the gubenatorial election in Miyazaki is sending a shock wave throughout political circles in Japan. It is not because a comedian won but rather because no political party really attracted much of voters' interest.
In a sense, public distrust in local governments involving bid-rigging scandals is causing voters' disenchantment with political parties, as Daily Yomiuri reports (see the link above).
It might be said, however, that the recent decline in the popularity of the Abe administration at the national level might well affect voters' attitude at the local level.
It looks like anything can happen after Koizumi is gone, and that is bad news for Prime Minister Abe and the ruling parties.
