I talked to Journalist Sam Jameson on Nikkei CNBC Interview program this evening. He said that the Democratic Congress is likely to become quite critical of China regarding its currency value, although Japan's "low interest/low yen" policy may also be criticized, especially by US auto industry leaders. However, a more visible effect of the Democratic leadership will be felt on US-North Korea relations, where direct talks between the two countries seem more likely to take place now, as the Bush administration has to modify its position to accommodate Democratic demands, especially regarding foreign policy. Finally he insisted that even though the conclusion may be inevitably negative, Japan should discuss openly about nuclear armament in an objective but not emotional way. Although time was short, I felt that I learned a lot from the seasoned veteran journalist on this evening's interview program.
