東京で増える外国人：Increasing Foreigners in Tokyo

韓国・朝鮮・中国人が支配的：Dominant Koreans & Chinese

本日の日経新聞の東京版に、最近発表された国勢調査によると2005年10月現在で、都内の外国人は24万8千人で、5年前に比べると16.6％増えたという記事が載っている。
興味深いのはその国別構成比で、南北朝鮮（7万人）がもっとも多いが、中国（6万6千人）が急速に追い上げており、この2つのグループで都内の外国人の過半数を占めている。その一方で、米国人は全体の10.3％に過ぎず、それも減少傾向にある。
これらの数字は、現実には東京が急速にアジアの大都市になりつつあるが、グローバルな国際都市になっているとはいえないことを示している。

It is reported in the Tokyo edition of today's Nikkei Newspaper that the total number of foreigners in Tokyo is about 248,000, as of October, 2005, according to the recently published Census. This is a 16.6% increase from the previous Census year, 2000.
The national composition is interesting in that the largest group is North/South Koreans, being caught up with by Chinese, and these two Asian groups account for more than 50% of foreigners in Tokyo. On the other hand, Americans only account for 10.3%, and are gradually decreasing in number over time.
All this indicates that Tokyo is rapidly becoming an Asian metropolis rather than a global cosmopolis in reality.
