ワシントンの桜祭り：Cherry Blossom Festival@Washinton DC

日本のギフトの96周年記念：96th Anniversary of Japan's Gift

本日の「ワシントンポスト」紙の記事（下のリンク参照）によると、桜祭りに間に合うように、ワシントンの「Tidal Basin」周辺の3000本の桜が満開になったとのこと。
この桜祭りは、96年前の1912年に東京都から米国に桜が贈られたことを記念して行われるもので、日本が米国と社会的・文化的な関係を強めるよい機会であるといえる。

It is reported in today's Washington Post (see the link above) that 3,000 Japanese cherry trees around the Tidal Basin are in full bloom just in time for the National Cherry Blossom Festival.
This festival commemorates the gift of the cherry trees from the city of Tokyo to the U.S. in 1912, that was 96 years ago.
This should be a good opportunity for Japan to strengthen its relationship with the U.S. socially and culturally.
