3月25日の「International Media Forum」では、2人のスピーカー 金美齢氏と矢島誠氏が、最近の台湾での総統選挙について講演し、選挙の結果に対する失望感、および馬英九新総統と国民党に対する不信感を表明した。
特に金氏は、馬英九新総統が台湾の自由と独立に対して何もしないことが確実で、もし何もしなければ台湾は間もなく中国の一部になってしまうと危機感をあらわにした。
参加者の間から、総統の選挙が行われたこと自体が台湾の民主主義の証しであり、その結果は誰が選ばれたとしても受け入れるべきという意見が出たが、2人のスピーカーはそれに同意せず白熱した議論が続いた。
いずれにしても、一国（？）の命運に関してこれほど価値観の強い議論を日本で聞くことはまれなので、非常に刺激になったことは確かである。
At the International Media Forum on March 25, there were two speakers, Ms. Alice M King and Mr. Seiji Yajima, who expressed their disappointment at the result of the recent presidential election in Taiwan and skepticism about the new president, Ma Ying-jeou and his party KMP (Kuomintang).
In particular, Ms. King said Ma won't do anything for freedom and independence of Taiwan and, as a result, Taiwan would soon be part of China, which she could not accept.
Some participants argued that the presidential election itself is a proof for democracy in Taiwan and the result should be accepted as such, whether who is elected as next president. Ms. King and Mr. Yajima did not agree, however.
It was really stimulating and even shocking to hear such a value loaded argument over the fate of a "nation (?)," which we do not think of too often in Japan.
