福井日銀総裁の後継者は？：Who Will Succeed BOJ Goveror Fukui?

カギを握る小沢民主党党首：DPJ Leader Ozawa Holds Key

本日の「The Japan Times」の記事（下のリンク参照）によれば、日銀の福井総裁の後継者が誰になるかは今の段階では不明であるという。武藤敏郎副総裁が、おそらく福井総裁や連立与党の支持を得て、最有力候補であろう。
しかし問題は、民主党とその党首である小沢氏が「官僚は他の省庁や団体に天下りするのは許さない」といっていることである。はたして、これが元財務省事務次官の武藤氏を日銀総裁に選ぶ場合にもあてはまるかどうかはまだ分からない。
それが分かるまでは、福井総裁が来月日銀を去った後、総裁が空席になるという心配が続く。もし万一そうなれば日本の金融市場を大きく混乱させるであろう。

According to today's Japan Times (see the link above), no one is sure who is going to succeed Mr. Toshihiko Fukui as next Bank of Japan Governor. It looks like Mr. Toshiro Muto, BOJ Vice Governor, is a frontrunner, probably backed by Mr. Fukui as well as the ruling coalition.
But the problem is the DPJ and its leader, Ichiro Ozawa, who said "bureaucrats should not parachute into other ministries and institution," Whether this applies to the appointment of Mr. Muto, a former vice finance minister, to the Bank of Japan Governor is yet to be found out.
In the meantime, there are concerns that the next BOJ chief might not be approved by both the Upper and Lower Houses in time, and the position of BOJ Governor could be vacant after Mr. Fukui leaves next month. Surely, that would be disastrous for Japan's financial market.
