本日のTUJ(テンプル大学・東京）におけるセミナーで、シーラ・スミス博士が「日本の政局の変化は日米同盟にとって問題か？」というテーマでプレゼンを行なった。
ポイントは、テーマの最後にある疑問符で、シーラ博士によれば予想に反して答えは基本的に「問題ではない」というもの。なぜなら、過去に例えば70年代初めや90年代初めに起った政局の変化は、日本の防衛政策や日米関係について議論の深まりと透明性が増加をもたらしたからであるとスミス博士は主張。

At today's seminar at TUJ (Temple University of Japan), Dr. Sheila Smith gave a talk on "political change in Japan: a challenge to the Japan-US alliance?" The point is the question mark at the end of this title.
Surprisingly, Dr. Smith's answer was "no" in essence, because political changes in the past, say, in the early 70s and the early 90s, led to more debate and more transparency for Japan's defense policy and Japan-US security relations. So the same thing may be said this time around, according to Dr. Smith.
