教育問題について議論：Discussion on Education Issues

本日12月5日に本田敬吉氏（日本NCR特別顧問）の定例会があり、いつものように色々な話題が出たが、特に今回は「教育問題」に焦点が当たった。
まず「経済教育」については、小中高校生にはとにかく現代社会に生きていく上で必要最小限の金融の知識、例えば常識的な貯蓄や投資や年金の知識などを身につけさせることが大切という意見とともに、子どもにカネの話しをすべきでないといった古い考え方は正さなければならないという意見が強かった。
また大学生は大人として扱い、奨学金かローンで自らの学費を負担させることによって現実の経済問題への関心を高めるべきという意見も飛び出した。
さらに「教育問題一般」については、家庭やコミュニティの子どもを教育する機能が崩壊してしまったことが問題であり、それを再構築するのは容易なことではないという悲観論が表明されたが、その一方でそのような問題が認識されたことが解決への第一歩であるという意味で、今後は楽観できるのではないかという意見も出された。
いずれにしても、教育問題一般はなかなか議論が収束しない難しい問題であることが改めて認識された会合であった。

Today there was a regular meeting organized by Mr. Keikichi Honda (Special Advisor, NCR Japan), where participants discussed various issues with special attention paid to education this time.
First, regarding "economic education," it was pointed out that elementary/middle/high school students should learn minimum essential knowledge about personal finance such as savings, investment, pension, etc., and we must correct our old-fashioned belief that kids should not be told about "money."
As for college students, they should be treated as adults and made responsible for their own tuition fees to be paid by student loans and/or scholarships, which would give them economic lessons in real life, some participants insisted.
Then the discussion turned to the "education problem in general," and pessimism prevailed in restoring the educational function of the family and the community, whereas some remained optimistic, saying that identifying problems would be a first step toward their resolution.
In any case, it was reconfirmed that the education problem was quite difficult to tackle, because no agreement could be reached as to how to deal with it.
