外国特派員協会での名演奏会：Wonderful Concert at FCCJ
グルダとプライの「冬の旅」："Winter Journey" by Gulda/Prey

今晩は、日本外国特派員協会で素晴らしいイベントがあり、リコ・グルダ（ピアノ）とフロリアン・プライ（バリトン）の共演による「菩提樹」で有名なシューベルト「冬の旅」のコンサートが開催された。
この2人の若い音楽家は、それぞれの偉大な父親、フリードリッヒ・グルダとヘルマン・プライの稀に見る才能を受け継いでいることが明らかである。
特にリコ・グルダは母親が日本人であり、伯母である脇山真木女史がこのコンサートのオーガナイザーであるという事実もあり、少なくとも私には今宵の「冬の旅」が東洋的に響き、あたかも苦行の旅の末に悟りに達する仏陀の物語のように聞こえてきたから不思議である。
日本外国特派員協会はこのような質の高い音楽会を、それにふさわしい会員にようやく届けられたことを誇りに感じて、今後とも活発に活動を続けてほしい。

This evening there was a wonderful concert held by FCCJ (Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan), featuring Rico Gulda (piano) and Florian Prey (baritone) to play Shubert's "Winder Journey," which is well known for the popular song, "the Linden Tree."
Undoubtedly, these two young artists inherited the rare and exquisite quality of their respective fathers, Friedrich Gulda (1930-2000) and Hermann Frey (1929-1998).
Maybe partly because of the fact that Rico Gulda's mother is Japanese and his aunt, Maki Wakiyama, organized this concert at FCCJ, tonight's performance somehow sounded to me like an oriental story of Buddha's ascetic journey leading to enlightenment.
FCCJ should be pround of hosting this kind of quality music concert for their members, who deserve it.
