デフレ脱却（？）再訪： Deflation Already Over (?) Revisited

意外な７月の物価安定： Unexpected Price Stability in July

今日の朝刊で各紙が伝えるところによると、７月の消費者物価の上昇は0.2％にとどまり、予想外の安定ぶりだったとのこと。実際に、ガソリンなどの石油製品以外の物価は、0.33％の下落を示した。
物価の上昇が鈍った理由の一つは、今回新しく採用された指数で価格下落傾向のデジタル関連製品へのウエイトが高まったためである。
いずれにしても、長期金利も下落して５ヶ月ぶりの低水準となり、日銀が近々金利を引き上げる可能性は少なくなった。
しかし、デフレ脱却が近いかどうかについてはまだ不明である。

Today it is reported in all the major newspapers that consumer prices for July rose by only 0.2%, much lower than previously expected. In fact, prices dropped by 0.33% in terms of the index excluding the prices of petroleum products.
The lower price increase is partly due to the newly adopted index with more weights attached to digital electronics products whose prices tend to decline over time.
In any case, long-term interest rates are also declining, hitting the lowest level in five months. This means that the Bank of Japan is unlikely to raise the interest rate in the near future.
But the question remains as to whether deflation is going to be over soon.
